History
The Beehive was built in the 1960s as part of a project to modernize and expand the New Zealand Parliament Buildings. It was designed by British architect Sir Basil Spence, who won an international competition to design the building. The Beehive was officially opened in 1977 and has since become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Wellington.
