History
The area was originally inhabited by Māori and the name "Raglan" comes from the Māori name "Whāingaroa", which means "the long pursuit". European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century and established farms in the area. In the early 20th century, Raglan became a popular holiday destination for people from Hamilton and Auckland and tourism has been an important part of the local economy ever since.

As of the 2018 New Zealand census, Raglan had a population of 3,051. The median age of residents is 39 years old and the majority of the population is European, with significant Māori and Pacific Islander communities as well.

Raglan has a mild and temperate climate, with warm summers and cool winters. The town receives a moderate amount of rainfall throughout the year, with the wettest months being from June to August. The prevailing wind in the area is from the southwest, which makes Raglan an ideal location for surfing.
