Lochinvar is a small rural locality located in the North Island of New Zealand. It is situated near the Waikato River, in the Waikato region and is approximately 35 kilometres southeast of Hamilton. The area is known for its farming activities and is home to a number of dairy farms and stud farms.

History

The name Lochinvar was chosen by the first settlers in the area, who were Scottish immigrants. The name was inspired by the famous poem "Marmion" by Sir Walter Scott, which tells the story of a Scottish knight who falls in love with a lady named Ellen, who is courted by another knight named Fitz-James. The poem includes a reference to a castle called Lochinvar, which is where the Scottish knight is said to have lived. The settlers felt that the name was appropriate for the area, which reminded them of the Scottish highlands.

Geography

Lochinvar is located on the eastern bank of the Waikato River, which is the longest river in New Zealand. The area is relatively flat, with some gently rolling hills to the east of the river. The soil in the area is fertile and is used primarily for farming activities.
