Loburn was originally settled by European farmers in the mid-19th century. The town takes its name from the Loburn River, which flows through the area. At its peak, the town had a population of around 200 people and was a centre for farming and timber milling. Today, Loburn has a population of just over 500 people and is a popular destination for tourists.
