History
The name "Hangatiki" is derived from the Māori language, meaning "dry cave". The town was originally settled by Māori tribes and later became a site for European settlement. In the late 19th century, Hangatiki was a hub for logging and timber milling. Today, the town is home to several historic buildings and landmarks, including the Hangatiki Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1914.
