Driving Creek was named after a local creek that runs through the settlement. The settlement was originally founded as a logging community and the land around the town was heavily logged in the early 20th century. In the 1970s, a local artist named Barry Brickell began a project to restore the forests around Driving Creek, which has since become a popular tourist attraction.
