History
The area now known as Cottesbrook was originally inhabited by the Maori people, who were later displaced by European settlers in the mid-19th century. The town was named after one of the early European settlers in the area and grew rapidly during the 19th and early 20th centuries due to its location on the railway line between Christchurch and Picton.
