History

Smedley Estate was established in 1911 by William Nelson Smedley, a wealthy businessman and politician who had previously served as the Mayor of Napier. Smedley was attracted to the area for its scenic beauty and fertile farmland and set about establishing a sheep and cattle station on the site. Over the years, the estate grew to become one of the largest and most successful sheep and cattle stations in the region, with a reputation for producing high-quality wool, lamb and beef. Today, the estate is still owned and operated by the Smedley family and is recognized as an important part of New Zealand's agricultural heritage.
