History

Sherwood was originally a gold-mining town, with several mines operating in the area in the late 1800s. The town's economy later shifted to farming, with sheep and cattle farming being the main industries. The town is named after Sir Percy Sherwood, a prominent figure in New Zealand's agricultural industry.
