History
The area that is now Cross Creek was once home to a thriving logging industry, with many settlers arriving in the mid-1800s to work in the forests. In the late 1800s, the Rimutaka Incline was constructed to transport goods from Wellington to the Wairarapa region, passing through Cross Creek. Today, the old railway line has been converted into a popular hiking and cycling trail known as the Rimutaka Rail Trail.
