History
The area now known as Cora Lynn was originally inhabited by the Maori people, who were later displaced by European settlers in the mid-19th century. The town was named after the daughter of one of the early European settlers in the area.

Cora Lynn is located in a valley in the foothills of the Southern Alps. The area is surrounded by dense forests and is home to several rivers and creeks, including the Waiho River which runs through the town.
